Harman, Liebert and Billie Brown Inducted Into Women's Poker Hall of Fame

jennifer-harman.jpg

Grab your chips and shake those hips because in an official ceremony due to take place on September 3rd at Las Vegas’ Golden Nugget Casino, Jennifer Harman, Kathy Liebert and Billie Brown will find themselves inducted into the ‘Women in Poker Hall of Fame.’ Women are really starting to dominate poker, and it's nice to see them getting recognized before the younger crop of players pass them by - or will they?

Mike Matusow Wins 2010 Florida State Poker Championship

matusow-56-pounds.jpg

I love me some Mike Matusow, and it's nice to see him winning lots of tournaments. Mike “The Mouth” Matusow has just collected $103,000, after taking down the main event of the Florida State Poker Championship at the Isle Casino & Racing in Pompano Beach. Matusow was in Florida to promote and run a seminar for poker online training site ‘Deepstack’ and while there decided to take time out to enter the tournament.

World Series of Poker Returns This August on ESPN for 2010

wsop_2010.jpg

I've been wondering when the WSOP would return on ESPN, and it looks like this August. They will start coverage of the main event, and then takea break for the final tables in November.

Ty Stewart, vice president of the World Series of Poker, took a cue from reality TV when he championed the radical idea of shutting down the action for four months before playing out the "November Nine." For the third year, the Main Event has done just that. The final nine was decided two weekends ago and will resume play Nov. 6 after a 110-day break.

Poker Bill for US Congress Gets the Mark Up

chips-US-flag.jpg

Yes - that's right. Barney Frank is at it again trying to get the poker bill for the US at least looked at and marked up. What's a mark up? It's when the sponsors of a bill add to it and subtract from it in hopes the bill will get passed or even looked.

After a few months of inactivity regarding United States legislation that would legalize and regulate online poker, a flurry of action continued today when another Congressional committee session on the subject was scheduled for Tuesday.

On Tuesday morning, the House Committee on Financial Services will mark up H.R. 2267, the Internet Gambling Regulation, Consumer Protection and Enforcement Act, a bill introduced by the commitee’s chairman, Rep. Barney Frank (D-MA)

Learning Self Control at the Poker Table One Game at a Time

20100716_inq_ubet16-a.JPG

Poker is a game of skill, luck, and patience. Whether the playing field is a diamond, gridiron or court, the mental side of any game is certainly important. But in poker, where the playing field is about the size of a dining table, the mental side of the game is everything.

In order to better equip themselves for their own competitions at the recent World Series of Poker in Las Vegas, about 45 players took a daylong seminar with two non-poker players whose specialty is the mind - former FBI agent Joe Navarro and mind-set coach Sam Chauhan.

We've never had a mind-set coach but it could help right? Click on through for more info on how this works, but we think one or two classes couldn't but help anyone's poker game.

More Women Getting into Poker Than Ever Before

scaled.Vanessa_Russo_at_poker_table_t318.jpg

Oh - and they're hot. Stroll through the World Series of Poker playing area Tuesday night at the Rio revealed a statement about the current climate of the game. Massive pictures of Annette Obrestad, a 21-year old poker superstar from Norway, on the cover of Bluff Magazine lined the hallways. A final table in the Amazon Room featured Jennifer Harman, a 46-year old Las Vegas poker veteran, battling two other players for the $10,000 buy-in seven card stud hi-low world championship.

Well - it's about time, and well - I'm glad. We need people from all walks of life playing poker, and mars needs more women. :-)
